Holy balls of fire, is it August 2021 already?? This calls for a Life + Goal Reflection!
Traditionally, around August I start to get a little anxious and discouraged because “I'm not far enough along” or “I haven't accomplish as much as I'd hoped by now.” You feel this, too?
But darling, this isn't true.
As I write this email I am looking at my 2021 Vision Board. On that board I have words like free spirit, bold, risk meets reward, confidence and writer, along with pictures of the ocean, mountains, yoga, healthy food, the sunrise and a camper.
I realized over the past several months I've unconsciously attached a shit-ton of expectations to these words and pics:
The sunrise has become: watch the sunrise everyday.
Free spirit has become: monthly road trips and adventures.
Writer has become: submit my essays for publication.
Confidence has become: never doubt yourself.
And in turn, what felt so light and inspiring in January, feels like a ton of pressure now. So here's what I'm doing:
Instead of saying “I haven't done ___”, ask:
Is this still something I want?
Instead of saying “I haven't been there yet,” ask:
How have I used my time instead?
Instead of saying “I've gotten off track," ask:
What have I learned?
Instead of saying “I'm not there yet,” ask:
Who am I becoming?
Instead of saying “They've done more,” ask:
According to whom?
Instead of saying “I have so much more I want to do this year” and putting a ton of fucking pressure on yourself, ask:
How do I most want to feel the remainder of this year?
I hope these little mindset tricks help you realize you have so much to celebrate! Speaking of…
